Tokyo, largest city and capital of Japan, and one of the most heavily populated cities in the world. It is located at the head of Tokyo Bay, on the eastern coast of Honshu, the largest of the four main islands of the Japanese archipelago. The city of Tokyo proper is made up of 23 special wards (ku), with an area of 570 sq km (220 sq mi). The Tokyo metropolitan prefecture (Tokyo-to), of which it is part, extends to the west of the central city. The great urban sprawl, of which Tokyo is the heart, is known as the Greater Keihin Metropolitan Area, and it includes two major cities, Yokohama and Kawasaki, to the south. Tokyo has been the national capital of Japan since 1868, after the rule of the feudal Tokugawa dynasty was overthrown in the Meiji Restoration; at that time the city's name was changed from Edo. Today Tokyo is the country's financial, industrial, commercial, and cultural centre.

Hong Kong S. A. R. can be divided into three main regions—Hong Kong Island, about 18 km (11 mi) long and up to 8 km (5 mi) wide with an area of about 80 sq km (29 sq mi), and nearby islets; the mainland Kowloon Peninsula and Stonecutters Island, with an area of about 10 sq km (6 mi); and the New Territories, made up principally of a large area on the mainland and Lantau Island, making up the rest of the land area. The dependency is partly situated in the Zhu Jiang, or Pearl River, delta, and the Sham Chun River forms the border with China. Much of Hong Kong is hilly, the highest elevation being Tai Mo Shan in the New Territories at 957 m (3,140 ft) and the highest island peak Lantau Peak on Lantau Island at 934 m (3,064). Substantial areas of the low-lying terrain are made up of land reclaimed from the sea. Shortage of fresh water is a serious problem, with most of the supply being piped from mainland China.
Things to see: if you got stacks of cash you can't leave Hong Kong wtihout spending at least one night at the famous Peninsula hotel. for 5,500 USD dollar you get the suite, security post outside the room, and a Rolls Royce with driver (dream on for most of us. Maybe an idea for a weeding travel though).

Seoul (Korean, Soul), city in north-west South Korea, capital of the country, on the Han River near the
Yellow Sea port of Inch'on. Situated near North Korea, Seoul is the largest city and the commercial,
manufacturing, and cultural centre of South Korea. Industrial plants produce textiles, clothing, chemicals,
processed food, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, and printed materials. Government activities
and tourism are also important to the city's economy. Among the leading institutions of higher education in
Seoul are Korea University (1905), Seoul National University (1946), Chung-ang University (1918), Sung Kyun
Kwan University (1938), Ewha Women's University (1886), and Yonsei University (1885). Other landmarks include
the National Museum, featuring collections of Korean art and artefacts; the National Science Museum; Gyungbok,
Kyungbok, Changdok, and Duksoo palaces; a Roman Catholic cathedral; and zoological and botanical gardens.
Of special interest are the bell tower, which contains a large bronze bell inscribed with the date 1468,
and the remains of the ancient stone wall that once encircled the city. Seoul also has several theatres
and a large stadium.
Manila, capital, largest city, and chief seaport of the Philippines. Manila is on Luzon Island, on the
eastern shore of Manila Bay at the mouth of the Pasig River, just west of Quezon City. It is the commercial,
administrative, and cultural centre of the Philippines.
Manila is a major seaport and has an excellent deep, sheltered harbour with a built-up modern waterfront.
On the south bank of the Pasig is the original city, Intramuros, founded in 1571 by the Spanish, and containing
striking examples of 17th-century Spanish architecture, together with an encircling wall begun in 1590. Most of
the old city was destroyed during World War II. Wealthy residential districts, a busy harbour, and cultivated
parks and gardens contrast sharply with the city’s extensive slum areas.
Manila, often called the Pearl of the Orient, and became the first capital of the Philippines. It was replaced
as capital by Quezon City in 1948, but remained the country's administrative centre. In 1976 Manila again
became the capital as part of a local government reorganization that established Metropolitan Manila,
comprising Quezon City, Caloocan, Pasay, and Manila proper. Population 1,580,924 (1999 estimate).

Singapore City, capital of the Republic of Singapore. Extraordinary economic success over the past 30 years has catapulted the city of Singapore to prominence among financial centres in South East Asia. Situated on a first-rate harbour on the southern coast of Singapore, it was an active trading centre as early as the 13th century. In 1819 Sir Stamford Raffles obtained use of the city as a port for the British East India Company. Five years later Singapore City belonged to Great Britain (see United Kingdom). The port’s prosperity was assured with the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and the world’s growing demand for natural resources such as rubber, which were shipped through Singapore City. Large numbers of immigrants, particularly from China and India, were attracted to the city, which became known for its ethnic diversity and racial harmony. Occupied by the Japanese during World War II, recaptured by the British, and later controlled by Malaysia, Singapore City emerged as the capital of an independent republic in 1965.
Modern Singapore City, which means “lion city”, is one of the world’s busiest free ports.
Although it is the capital of a country with few natural resources, it has become the region’s major
centre for international trade. Financial institutions and high-tech manufacturing have also brought wealth
to the city. Singapore’s dynamic economic growth has been achieved largely because of its determined
and careful government planning, which has included curbing the soaring birth rate. It is a city of luxuriant
parks, colourful markets, and clean, tree-lined streets, where littering is discouraged by heavy penalties.
Sleek new skyscrapers dominate the skyline, though there are also many traditional Asian shops and stately
old colonial buildings, including the famed Raffles Hotel. Population 3,612,000 (1996 estimate).

The city of Kuala Lumpur, which is equal in size to the federal territory officially called Wilayah
Persekutuan, covers an area of 243 sq km (94 sq mi). The Kelang Valley conurbation, however, extends
into an area at least twice that size, although it is not precisely defined and some consider it even larger.
Merdeka Square, located just west of the point where the Gombak River joins the Kelang, marks the heart of
Kuala Lumpur. The city’s commercial heart, with modern banks, retail stores, shopping malls,
restaurants, and hotels, also lies east of the Kelang. Outside the old core area of the city, housing consists
of two-storey Chinese shop houses and villages of Malay kampongs, wooden houses built on stilts. Still farther
outside the core are residential areas of all types, from low-income squatter settlements to the upper-class
Kenney Hill neighbourhood. To the east and north of the city centre, the Golden Triangle includes luxury hotels,
multi-storey office buildings, and a development project known as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
